Have you ever wondered what it takes to build a road that meets county standards and stands the test of time? Let us take you through the journey of how Texas Builder Pros constructed a private road for a customer in Johnson County, TX—ensuring durability, precision, and quality every step of the way.
Our journey began when a customer approached us with a vision: to divide their land into smaller lots. But before moving forward with their plans, they needed a road that complied with the county’s strict guidelines. We got right to work, starting with engineered drawings. These weren’t just blueprints; they were the foundation of our success, packed with all the design elements Johnson County required.
With the detailed plans finalized, we presented them to the county for approval. After a bit of anticipation, we received the go-ahead! The plat was approved, and it was time to break ground. However, before any dirt was moved, we needed to ensure the road was laid out with absolute accuracy.
To ensure the road was laid out perfectly, we utilized advanced tools such as total stations and GPS equipment, marking the ground with pinpoint accuracy. This allowed us to create a detailed map directly on the earth, ensuring the road’s exact placement.
The excavation phase was next. We dug out the road, ditches, and approaches, making precise adjustments—lowering and raising certain areas as needed. In spots where we built up the ground, we conducted compaction tests to confirm the soil’s strength, ensuring a sturdy foundation. We were committed to avoiding shortcuts because a road is only as strong as its base.
Going even deeper, we injected a soil stabilization product (Earthloc’s proprietary stabilization formula) four feet into the base of the road. This crucial step helped ensure the road wouldn’t shift or crack due to Texas Blackland dirt’s tendency to expand and contract through wet and dry seasons.
With the groundwork prepared, we installed 8 inches of road base. To achieve the desired level of compaction, we used water to compact the base thoroughly, ensuring it was ready to support the road’s surface.
Next, we turned our attention to the concrete approach and sidewalks. These areas were installed with precision, providing smooth, durable access points for vehicles and pedestrians alike.
Before moving on to the chip seal, we completed the final grading of the ditches. Then, we applied a three-coat chip seal, which serves as the top layer of the road. This method adds a durable, weather-resistant surface that withstands heavy use and changing seasons.
As the final step, we hydroseeded all disturbed areas along the road and surrounding landscapes. This helped plant grass and restore the natural beauty of the area, leaving everything clean and well-maintained.
At Texas Builder Pros, we’re not just building roads—we’re paving the way for our customers’ dreams with precision, quality, and a commitment to lasting results.
